How to Empower woman Through Movies

In our Indian society, we consider women as Goddess. We have this custom of worshipping women since ages. For instance: In Navratri, we keep fast and worship small girls considering them as Goddesses, do every possible thing to make them happy. So that, in return they shower their blessings on us. But we people are so selfish that we forget about all these things as soon as the Navratri are over.

Moreover, we claim that condition of women in India is improving now. They are getting a good education, equal opportunities in jobs and every field of their interest. But each day we learn about some new incidences of rape and harassment against women. Such as harassment at their workplace, at schools, while traveling in buses/trains etc. People even don’t spare small girls.

Everyone must be well aware of the famous Nirbhaya Rape case of Delhi. But our judicial system has taken 5 long years to give a verdict of death sentence to the rapists. Quick justice for such cases should be mandatory because as we all know that justice delayed is justice denied. The punishment for these offenses should be harsh. So that, nobody dares to do such crimes.

A report shows that a woman is raped every 30 mins in India and now again a gang rape and murder of 20 years old girl in Rohtak took place where the Victim is not only gang-raped but her skull shattered and sharp objects inserted into her private parts. How cruel anyone can be, are they human, don’t they have the heart to do such a cruelty with a girl? It takes months to lodge a complaint against the main suspects. Rapists smashed the face of the victim with bricks and run the car over the body so that no one can identify the body of that girl.

Our Bollywood industry is doing well on its part to encourage women empowerment among us, by making movies like Neerja, Mary Kom, Dangal, Queen, Gulaab gang, Mardaani, Pink and so on. All these movies narrate the story of a strong woman. For example, Gulaab Gang movie is based on a real-life story of a group of women, originally from some village in U.P., who formed a gang to save women from domestic violence. Then there is Neerja, again a story based on the life of a simple girl., who was a victim of domestic violence. She took a courageous step and divorce her husband and started a new life on her own. The bravery she had shown while fighting with the terrorists was beyond commendable.

To conclude with, I want to say that, it’s a man’s mindset that needs to be changed. Instead of taking advantage of a lonely girl, they should consider it their duty to make her feel safe with them.
